NEWS REVIEW OF 2006

2005 had ended well with the firm winning the award for "Best All Round QS Firm" from QS News magazine.

January 2006 started well with the appointment of Andy Welch BSc(Hons), DipPM of our St Albans office as a Director.

Arrangements were made for the move in March of the St Albans office to Tyttenhanger House, a splendid Grade I listed mansion set in Tyttenhanger Park.

At the beginning of April the practice established a new office in the heart of Manchester at The Triangle in Exchange Square under the leadership of Regional Director Daniel Rhodes.

2006 continued the very busy trend for the practice with a wide variety of new projects being won, some of the most significant of which were:

  • Oaklands College, St Albans, Hertfordshire. Quantity Surveying services, comprehensive redevelopment of College - estimated value of £74 million.
  • Queen Mary University of London. Quantity Surveying services in connection with redevelopment of student facilities.
  • Harlow District Council - Essex. Boxall Sayer win Best all Round QS firm award

The firm won a large number of other projects during the course of the year including a good deal of repeat business from a wide variety of clients including St Albans Cathedral, various NHS Trusts and Local Authorities, property developers/investors, commercial and voluntary organisations.

We have also been appointed to several Housing Framework agreements and look forward to working on major social housing schemes throughout the UK for Housing Associations as well as developers & commercial house builders.

Further awards were received during 2006 including a Sussex Heritage Trust "Small Scale Residential" Award for a prestigious new home on the edge of Chichester Harbour and a RIBA South East Region Award for the restoration of 1930s modernist house Harbour Meadow in West Sussex.

Various new team members have joined during the year including Neil Smith, Senior Quantity Surveyor in St Albans office, Mukesh Modhvadia, Graduate Trainee Quantity Surveyor at London office and Natasha Lacorne, Business Development Assistant, again at St Albans office.

To celebrate our move to “Tyttenhanger House” Boxall Sayer invited clients to a midsummer garden party with a difference! Guests were encouraged to explore and network within the impressive grounds; with live music, archery and a number of pastimes on offer including “beat the goalie” which was very topical as the World Cup was in progress. Prizes were awarded and the party spirit continued well .
.and even resulted in a write up in QS Week's “QS Squeak” gossip column!

In October another party was held, this time in the Vicars Hall at Chichester to mark the semi-retirement of David Foster a former Director of the firm who first joined what was then Alex Sayer and Partners way back in 1965! He is remaining with the firm as a Senior Consultant assisting with special projects.

2007 opens with a range of exciting new projects!

The firm is also very involved in training - at the present time 4 team members are studying for Masters degrees, several are working towards their RICS membership (Chartered Surveyors), 2 are taking BSc degrees and one a National Certificate in construction studies. Several senior team members are also pursuing the Chartered Environmentalist qualification.

Boxall Sayer were judged “The Best All Round Quantity Surveying Firm” in the inaugural awards organised by the “QS News” subsidiary of Building magazine in December 2005.
